Wyre Forest Leisure Centre is celebrating its first birthday this week.

The centre in Silverwoods Way, Kidderminster opened its doors to the public on 6 July 2016.  Since then there have been more than 430,000 visits to the centre.  There has also been a massive increase in memberships; fitness memberships are up by 57% and swimming lessons by 60%.

To celebrate there is a special joining offer for new members; the £25 joining fee is being waived.   The team is so tickled pink with the success of the centre, they have decided to dye the swimming pool water pink for some sessions! Colleagues are also going to be dressed in pink and raising money for a breast cancer charity.

Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council said:

“We have been absolutely thrilled with the new leisure centre. It has proved to be just what the district needs.  It makes being active accessible, affordable and fun. The fantastic visitor numbers and membership take up shows that having access to modern facilities like this are a big draw for people getting active.”

Places for People Leisure, won the contract to design, build, operate and manage the centre.  Stuart Booton, Contracts Manager said:

“We are absolutely delighted with the success of the centre and would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support and goodwill messages.”

During the day (6 July) customers will also have the chance to join in a video montage the team is creating for social media.
