New rich wildflower meadow bursts into life at Burlish

A new wildflower meadow is bursting into life at Burlish Top Nature Reserve in Stourport-on-Severn.

Wyre Forest District Council’s rangers are reaping the rewards of work carried out during the winter of 2016 when they removed an area of scrub woodland to create the new meadow.

Technically the meadow areas at Burlish Top are known as “Acidic Grassland”, which is one of our rarest and most threatened wildlife habitats in the UK and one of the specialities of the Wyre Forest District.

This week they took these photos of the new meadow, which is already benefiting a range of wildlife that depends on this rare habitat type.

Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection, Councillor Juliet Smith said: “The photographs of the new meadow are beautiful and testament to all the hard work carried out by our Ranger Service.

“We are very lucky in Wyre Forest to have so many nature reserves and areas of beauty. I’m sure visitors to Burlish Top will be delighted with the new meadow.”
