Residents living in Wolverley and Cookley parish have until midnight on Tuesday 26 June to make sure they are on the electoral register if they want to take part in the local advisory poll.

On Thursday 12 July voters in Wolverley and Cookley parish will get the chance to take part in the poll which will ask, “Should the villages of Wolverley and Cookley each have their own Parish Council?”

Residents who were registered for this May’s elections, and who have not had a change in their circumstances, do NOT need to register again for the local advisory poll and they will receive a poll card. People who have moved home since May or have turned 18 will need to register.

Anyone not registered to vote at their current address can register online at www.gov.uk/registertovote.

Voting will take place between 8am and 8pm. The polling stations will be at Cookley Village Hall in Lea Lane, and Wolverley Memorial Hall in Shatterford Lane, as has been the case for elections for a number of years.

Anyone unable to cast their vote in person you can apply for a postal or proxy vote. Voting by post is an easy and convenient alternative to voting in person. The deadline to apply to vote by post is 5pm on Wednesday 27 June. Proxy voting allows you,  in certain circumstances,  to nominate someone else to cast your vote for you. The deadline to apply to vote by proxy is 5pm on Wednesday 4 July.

Ian Miller, Counting Officer said:

“The local advisory poll registration deadline is fast approaching. I urge everyone in Wolverley and Cookley Parish to register to vote by the Thursday 26 June deadline to make sure that their voice is heard on Thursday 12 July. You don’t need to re-register if you received a poll card for the local elections on 4 May and your details have not changed. “

The poll is part of a wider Community Governance Review.  It is taking place after Wolverley and Cookley Parish Council presented a petition to the district council requesting that the parish be dissolved and two new parishes be created. If anyone wants to make comments as part of review, they can be submitted on our website www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/wolverleyandcookleypoll or sent to Elections Manager, Wyre Forest District Council, Finepont Way, Kidderminster, Worcestershire, DY11 7WF.
