A newly elected member to Wyre Forest District Council is believed to be the youngest councillor in the United Kingdom.

Councillor Nick Harris was elected to represent the Bewdley & Rock ward on Thursday 3 May 2018, just 31 days after his eighteenth birthday.

Electoral rules mean candidates have to be 18 to stand for election.  Councillor Harris turned 18 on Monday 2 April, nominations for the election closed on Friday 6 April.

When the result was declared Nick said:“I’ve always had an interest in politics and I wanted to stand so that I could represent my local community. For me it’s about helping my local community and I am very glad they have given me this opportunity to represent them.”
