Three Wyre Forest parks are in the running to become one of the UK’s top 10 favourite outdoor spaces in a new nationwide “people’s poll”.

Brinton Park, Broadwaters Park in Kidderminster and the Queen Elizabeth II Gardens in Bewdley are among 1,883 UK green spaces awarded the prestigious Green Flag award – the mark of a quality park or green space – in July. Brinton Park also received the much coveted additional Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the management of the historic features.

Now people throughout the UK are being given the chance to vote for their favourite Green Flag park in the annual People’s Choice Awards.

Whether you enjoy visiting a park or green space to play football, walk the dog, exercise or simply get away from the hustle and bustle, if you think your favourite deserves to be in the top 10 People’s Choice then cast your vote.

All you have to do is go to www.greenflagaward.org/award-winners  find your park on the winners map and click the voting button. Once you’ve registered your vote, why not encourage others to get involved too through social media using the hashtag #PeoplesChoice.

Voting is now open and closes 30 September, with the top 10 sites being announced on 16 October.

Councillor Juliet Smith, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said: “We are extremely proud of all our parks and green spaces which provide local residents and tourists with a wide variety of outdoor spaces to enjoy all year round.

“I hope as many people use this opportunity to vote for Brinton Park, Broadwaters Park or QEII Gardens. We may be a relatively small district but let’s show the country just how much we love our parks here in Wyre Forest.”

Councillor Rebecca Vale, Cabinet Member for Operational Services: “Our staff work very hard keeping Brinton Park and QE II Gardens in tip top condition. I would urge everyone who lives and visits Wyre Forest to take this opportunity to get behind our Green Flag parks and put us on the map.”

Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Manager said: This year 1,883 parks and green spaces met the tough standards demanded by our Green Flag Award Judges but we want to know which parks the UK public love the most.

“The People’s Choice award is a chance to show how much your favourite park means to you. If it’s worth shouting about, make your voice heard and vote now.”
