Local sports people joined together to celebrate the district’s outstanding sporting success at the Wyre Forest Sports Awards.Sports Awards 2019

The annual event, which was held on Tuesday 15 January at Kidderminster Town Hall, recognises the area’s best sports men and women, as well as the commitment of the volunteers and coaches who support athletes and clubs across the district.

Run by Wyre Forest District Council and in association with headline sponsor Kidderminster Town Council, awards were handed out in nine different categories including ‘Unsung Hero’ and ‘Club of the Year’.

The night also included an opening speech from Councillor Martin Stooke, Mayor of Kidderminster and a video from local Paralympian Claire Cashmore updating attendees on her training to qualify for next year’s Paralympics in Toyko. Councillor Stephen Williams, Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council ended the awards with a closing speech.

Councillor Juliet Smith, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said: “The sports awards were a spectacular success and a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of some of the district’s most talented sports-people, coaches and volunteers.

“It is so important to recognise this hard work as sport is so beneficial to both physical and mental wellbeing. Shining a light on these inspiring stories, will have a positive impact on the community and hopefully, will inspire others to become more active too.”
