Crochet workshops a family affair

Crochet workshops at Bewdley Museum are proving to be quite a family affair with three sets of mothers and daughters signing up for the latest series.

Bewdley-based Ellie Hooper has been running the weekly Wednesday night sessions at the museum since 2017.

“We’ve had a great start to our workshops in 2019. It seems we are really appealing to mothers and daughters who account for six out of the seven regular crafters,” said tutor Ellie.

“The sessions are getting very positive feedback and everyone is thoroughly enjoying learning a new craft and having quality time with each other and with the rest of the class.

“We often turn to craft as something to make us feel good. The rhythmic repetitive movements of crochet are proven to have therapeutic benefits and emotional well being.”

Cabinet Member for Culture Leisure and Community Protection Councillor Juliet Smith said: “I’m delighted to hear our sessions at Bewdley Museum are proving to be such a hit. We’ve definitely seen a revival of crochet and other handcrafts in recent times.

“It’s not only about learning a new or rediscovering an old skill, it’s also a way of bringing families together and helping people make new friends.”

The sessions, which are ideal for beginners and improvers, cost £40 for a series of four and take place in the Guildhall from 6.30pm until 8pm.
