Community Leadership Fund boosts local good causes

More than 100 local good causes across Wyre Forest have been helped by WFDC’s Community Leadership Fund over the last year.

Around 114 individual grants have been made by Wyre Forest District Councillors who can individually allocate up to £1,000 each to support community groups, local charities and grass roots projects.

Charities, youth schemes, scouts and guide groups, sports clubs and a range of local organisations have all benefited by grants including the local Citizens Advice Bureau, Baxter Church Food Bank and the Wyre Forest Talking Newspaper to name just a few.

The scheme – which has been running for nine years – gives all 33 District Councillors a budget of £1,000 to support local causes.

Councillor Juliet Smith, Cabinet Member for Health, Well-being and Housing said:

“The Community Leadership Fund has been a great success over the last few years with hundreds of good causes receiving a welcome financial boost. The grants continue to make a difference to many organisations and initiatives throughout Wyre Forest.

Projects or schemes that improve the quality of life for residents or enhance the local environment will usually be supported and I would encourage more local organisations or initiatives to take a look at the Council’s website for more information.”
