Wolverley and Cookley residents are getting the chance to have their say on whether they think each village should have its own parish council.

Anyone who is registered to vote and lives in the parish will be able to vote in a Local Advisory Poll, which is taking place on Thursday 12 July.  They will be asked “Should the villages of Wolverley and Cookley each have their own Parish Council?”

The Local Advisory Poll is being organised by Wyre Forest District Council as part of a Community Governance Review. It is taking place after Wolverley and Cookley Parish Council presented a petition to the District Council requesting that the parish be dissolved and two new parishes be created.

Ian Miller, Counting Officer said:

“Residents of the two villages will have their chance to voice their opinions on whether or not they want the current parish to be dissolved and two new parishes created.  We want as many people as possible to take part in the poll to make sure the result reflects the views of local people. ”

For anyone who has not already registered to vote, the deadline is midnight on Tuesday 26 June.  It is quick and easy to do online by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.  Anyone without access to the internet can get a paper copy of the registration form from customer service advisors at Kidderminster Town Hall.

Voters can also vote by post or proxy. Anyone can apply for a postal vote which allows voters much greater flexibility about when they complete their ballot paper.  Anyone not already registered for a postal or proxy vote will need to complete an application form, which is available from www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/voting.  The deadline for new postal voting requests is 5pm on Wednesday 27 June.

Voting will take place between 8am and 8pm on Thursday 12 July. The polling stations will be at Cookley Village Hall in Lea Lane, and Wolverley Memorial Hall in Shatterford Lane, as has been the case for elections for a number of years. Full information will be included on poll cards issued to electors.
