The number of visits to Wyre Forest Leisure centre has grown to an average of 46,000 each month.

There are more than 4,000 more visits to the centre each month, compared to the combined number of visits to Wyre Forest Glades and Stourport Sports Centre.

There has also been a massive increase in memberships; fitness memberships are up 95% and swimming lessons by 45%. The group exercise programme has grown too, there are now 112 classes available every week.

The centre in Silverwood Way, Kidderminster is celebrating its second birthday next week (Friday 6 July) and to mark the occasion there is a special joining offer for new members. There are plenty of fun activities planned too. The pool water will be purple for most of the day.

There are lots of competitions and challenges taking place including rowing, running and climbing!  The centre’s mascot, Wyrely the dog, has a busy day planned too.  He will be in goal for a penalty shoot out competition, popping into the pre-school exercise class and cutting a birthday cake!

Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council said:

“Two years on and we can really see what a great success the leisure centre is.  The visitor numbers and membership take-up is continuing to grow.  By providing access to high quality facilities we are helping more people to get active.

“We are also working with Worcestershire County Council to try to extend the bus network to include Silverwoods Way to service the leisure centre and the growing community in this area.”

Places for People Leisure, won the contract to design, build, operate and manage the centre.

Stuart Booton, Contracts Manager said:

“Over our first two years we have already seen the difference the new leisure centre is making. We have developed to meet the requests of visitors and introduced many new programmes and classes.  Our new yoga classes and walking netball and walking football are proving very popular.  The team at Wyre Forest would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support and goodwill messages.”
