There is a chance to find out more about plastic recycling and alternatives to plastics at an event at Wyre Forest House next week (Tuesday 3 July).

Wyre Forest District Council’s Sustainability Team will be in reception area at Wyre Forest House, on Finepoint Way, Kidderminster, helping people learn what can and can’t be recycled and where. This includes what can be included in the green recycling bins and plastic carrier bag bins in supermarkets.

There will be a special collection point for people to bring along any brand of baby food pouches with their caps on and any Ella’s Kitchen’s food wrappers for recycling, products which can not be put into the council’s green recycling bins. All pouches need to be empty with their caps on. Nom Nom Kids will be demonstrating their award-winning reusable feeding products that are fun for little ones and practical for parents. Visitors can chat to Michelle Reaves, a mum of 5 and environmental blogger about how she is trying to make her family more environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint.

‘As One’ store will be there too with lots of plastic free alternatives e.g. bamboo toothbrushes, recycled kitchen foil, bamboo coffee cups etc. The items will be available to buy. The team will be in the reception area from 11am – 2pm.

Councillor Chris Rogers, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Health and Well-being said: “We know people in the district care about recycling but there are ways we can all do more. We’ll be explaining what you can recycle where and helping people look for alternatives to plastic.  This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how we can help the planet.”

More information about where people can take items which are typically hard to recycle is available from www.terracycle.co.uk/en-GB/brigades

The plastics awareness session is part of the council’s 5 Ways to Wellbeing campaign.  During June and July the focus is encouraging people to ‘keep learning’. For more information about the campaign visit www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/5Ways
