One small step for KAFF, one giant leap for Kidderminster

T-minus 5 days until Kidderminster Arts and Food Festival launches!

Set to be out of this world, this year’s festival organised by Wyre Forest District Council will showcase music, dance, arts, theatre and for the first very first time, food.

The new look KAFF runs from Saturday 19 October to Saturday 2 November 2019 celebrating planet Earth and 50 years since the first moon landing.

The two week long festival will shine a light on local and national talent across the performing arts and will include live music, theatre, story-telling, craft sessions, pop up poetry, food markets and much more. Many events are free and tickets for paid-for sessions modestly priced at £5 or less.

KAFF’s journey through time and space will begin with a Guinness World Record Attempt looking to beat the current record of 257 people dressed up as astronauts in one place.

The record breaking attempt will take place at Brinton Park, Kidderminster on Saturday 19 October at 12pm and relies on people getting involved by dressing up head to toe as an astronaut, this includes;

• Full ‘all in one’ space suit (a white coverall will do the job!)
• A space helmet (or a bike helmet with added cardboard to make it full faced, covered in tin foil!)
• White gloves (or plastic medical gloves)
• Space boots (wellies covered in tin foil)

There will be prizes for the best dressed astronauts. Foil recycle bins will also be available.

The fun doesn’t stop there with live music, fun and games, dancing and lots more taking place throughout the evening.

Councillor Helen Dyke, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said: “This year’s Kidderminster Arts and Food Festival is set to be the best yet! Adding the extra ‘F’ means for the first time, the festival will also showcase food. The other big change we’ve made is moving the festival to October.

“By holding the festival later in the year we can work better with local schools and colleges so KAFF becomes a platform for ‘up and coming’ local talent as well as continuing to shine a light on exciting and innovative professional performances.

“There are loads of great events going on throughout the festival and it would be great if we can kick-off KAFF by breaking a Guinness World Record. If you want to be a record breaker, please come along to Brinton Park on Saturday 19 October at 12pm and dress up as an astronaut, we really need your help.”
